Birds Eye Maple

The exact cause of birdseye maple is unknown, but it's believed to be caused by unfavorable growing conditions. The tree attempts to grow new buds to access more sunlight, but the new shoots are aborted due to a lack of nutrients. This results in small knots, or "birdseyes", embedded in the wood.
